Two people died and nine others are currently hospitalised at Muthara Level 4 Hospital in Meru County following an outbreak of suspected anthrax.
The hospital superintendent Dr Geoffrey Koome said two other patients died due to the virus and samples have been sent to KEMRI headquarters in Nairobi for further analysis.
“People should watch out for the signs and symptoms such as face inflammation, breathing problems and unexplained wounds,” Dr Koome said.
Anthrax is a zoonotic disease meaning it can be transferred from animals to people.
