Health Cabinet secretary Cleopa Mailu yesterday asked the court to dismiss a case challenging the ban of Shisha.

In response to the suit, he claims that use of the drug has been found to be a gateway to consumption of other hard drugs such as heroin.

The CS claims that he exercised court his powers under Section 36(m) of the Public Health Act when he imposed the ban adding that that the use of Shisha has revealed severe acute and chronic health effects on consumers and exposed nonconsumers.

Fifteen people, among them smokers, distributors, promoters and manufacturers filed the suit against the Health ministry.
