The number of Covid infections rose sharply on Tuesday to 345 over the last 24 hours amid fresh fears that a third wave could be on the way.
Tuesday’s figure was more than double the 152 infections recorded on Monday. The 345 new infections were from a sample size of 5,550 tests.
The figures came as several hospitals reported rising infections even as the country awaited the arrival of the first batch of the Covid vaccines which were expected in the country last night.
An internal memo of the Nairobi Hospital sent to patient admissions offices raised the red flag over the resurgence of Covid-19 and warns staff and patients against failing to observe Covid-19 protocols.
The memo from the hospital’s Chief executive Officer, James Nyamongo reads; “It is important to reiterate the seriousness of preventive measures to protect our staff and patients.”
