CIC Group has launched a medical cover dubbed Seniors Mediplan targetting senior citizens from the age of 60 years.
Speaking during the launch, CIC General Insurance Managing Director Fred Ruoro said though the joining age is capped at 80 years, the insured will be covered for life, guaranteeing them medical protection after retirement.
He said the scheme will enable those covered to channel their life’s savings to other income generating activities.
“As you age, medical care becomes more expensive. Senior citizens without a medical cover end up spending most of their hard-earned life savings to cater for medical expenses which drives people into abject poverty,” Ruoro said in a statement.
The product will offer in and out patient, dental, optical, services, as well as emergency ambulance and air evacuation services within East Africa, in addition to last expense cover should those insured die while still on cover.
The cover allows one legal spouse as a dependent of the principal member, but children are ineligible. Ruora urged customers to opt for the insurer’s CIC Family Medisure scheme as an alternative.
CIC General will be hoping to leverage the 2.7 million old age population.
