The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council (KMPDC) has announced the commencement of investigations into the allegations of fraud orchestrated between its council members, facilities and the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) employees.
In a statement to newsrooms through the KMPDC chief executive officer (CEO) David G. Kariuki, the council says it is supporting other government agencies towards reinforcing the ongoing investigations.
“The council has commenced investigations in the allegations with a view to determine the culpability of medical practitioners or health facilities in the matter” the statement reads in part
In response to an expose by NTV on Sunday 18th June, 2023 dubbed “we steal God heals”, the health cabinet secretary (CS) Nakhumicha S. Wafula ordered for an investigation to be done and report filed on a number of health facilities in parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Meru and Kirinyaga.
Among the health facilities earlier put under investigation by the health CS Nakhumicha S. Wafula include, Jekim medical Centre in Meru central, St Peters Orthopaedic and Surgical Hospital in Kiambu county, Afya Bora Hospital in Mwea Kirinyaga, Joy Nursing and Maternity Hospital-Kamkunji, Afya Bora Hospital Annex-Mwea, Jekim hospital-Imenti South, Beirut pharmacy and Medial Centre and AMAL Hospital limited
The KMPDC further assures that as ordered by the health cabinet secretary, action will be taken on any health practitioner or facility incriminated in the allegations.
“Action will be taken to any practitioner or health facility found culpable of the allegations raised in line with the provisions of the Medical Practitioners and Dentist Act Cap 253,” denotes the statement.
KMPDC further pledges commitment to protecting the public through regulating its members and facilities to ensure quality healthcare is delivered to all Kenyans.
