A hospital claimed to have been paid over Sh300 million by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) in fake bills has refuted the reports.
St Peter’s Orthopaedic Surgical and Specialty Centre at the same wants a local daily to retract the report or risk legal action.
The hospital’s director, Dr. Wasena Angira says in a demand letter written to the media house that the newspaper’s report clearly contradicts the NHIF’S recommendation in its audit report.
In the audit report, NHIF’s Head Provider Manager, according to Dr. Angira, has recommended that facilities with functional theatres Level 3B and above, were allowed to undertake specialised surgeries.
“The full story while quoting the NHIF audit report, has a serious error which has caused serious injury on the integrity and professionalism of our facility….
“We hereby demand that you print an immediate retraction to receive the same prominence as the original article did,” part of the letter reads.
The hospital management believes the media house understands the importance of the immediate correction.
“Further, we expect that you take responsibility for this error and your positive feedback will be appreciated,” said Dr. Angira, highlighting that the facility has the right to take legal action if any of the hospital demands are not met.
