The Ministry of Health and the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) have successfully signed the return to Work Formula which will ensure that clinical officers return to work and end their Strike immediately.
According to the Ministry of Health, the return to Work Formula will resolve all issues outlined in the Strike Notice dated 25th March 2024 and ensure the immediate resumption of services by clinical officers.
“The parties are working to address progressively issues outlined in the Strike Notice, particularly Collective Bargaining Agreement and Internship Program,” stated the press release by MOH.
After the agreement, all clinical officers are to return to work immediately. KUCO has shown its commitment in maintaining the agreement by calling off the strike with immediate effect.
One of the terms of the agreement from the return to work Formula is that salaries of clinical workers will be enhanced as they had stated in their Cos.
HOH and KUCO agreed that healthcare workers will be entitled to the issuance of a comprehensive medical cover as they had demanded earlier.
There will also be the expansion of training opportunities that will be offered to clinical officers through the agreement. Also, clinical officers will be entitled to reinforced health and safety measures from the government whenever on duty.
MOH has promised the public that it is committed to working collaboratively with healthcare Stakeholders to enhance service delivery throughout the country.
MOH had earlier signed an agreement for health workers adding an addendum to the Return-to-Work Formula that will ensure that there will be the immediate posting of 1,210 intern doctors to commence their twelve-month internship by August 1, 2024.
Other than that MOH had formed the Presidential Taskforce on Human Resources for Health on July 5, 2024, which was to offer recommendations and address problems pertaining to the Human Resources for Health Internship.
