More than 22 million Kenyans have so far registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA), marking a major milestone in the implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, shared the update today during the Social Sector National Development Implementation Committee (NDIC) meeting held in Nairobi.

The meeting was chaired by the Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development, Mr. Shadrack Mwadime.

Dr. Oluga reported that SHAโ€™s digital systems are now fully stable, supporting efficient delivery of services across the country. He noted that healthcare providers have already served 1.2 million Kenyans, with claims processed amounting to Kshs 45 billion.

โ€œThe Social Health Authority is changing the health financing landscape and cushioning Kenyans who would otherwise slide into poverty because of hospital bills,โ€ said Dr. Oluga.

The Social Sector NDIC brings together 13 State Departments and their Principal Secretaries. The forum tracks progress and ensures coordinated implementation of key social sector programmes.
