CFAO Healthcare Expands Retail Footprint with Full Acquisition of Goodlife Pharmacy

CFAO Healthcare officially announced full acquisition of Goodlife Pharmacy, marking a major milestone in East Africa’s healthcare retail pharmacies landscape, this move positions CFAO as a leading player cementing its place as a leading pharmaceutical distributor.

Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi, Jean-Marc Leccia, chief executive officer (CEO) of CFAO Healthcare said that the acquisition fits into the company’s vision of providing quality and affordable medicines across the continent.

“By acquiring 100 per cent of Goodlife Pharmacy, we are accelerating our transformation into a global healthcare player. Together, we will enhance accessibility, service quality, and innovation in the pharmaceutical sector.”

CFAO previously held a minority 30 per cent stake in Goodlife since 2022, with this acquisition, Goodlife’s 150 outlets across Kenya and Uganda serving over 2 million patients every year are now under its complete ownership.

Leccia lauded Goodlife’s retail model and expressed the intention to copy it in other markets.

“Goodlife has built one of the most advanced pharmaceutical networks in Africa, particularly in Kenya. Apart from South Africa, where two major players dominate, Goodlife is a leading player. Its reputation is strong and well-regarded by patients, not only for its medical quality but also for its customer experience.”

Goodlife Kenya CEO Justin Melvin welcomed the deal, citing it as an opportunity for accelerated growth and a chance to make greater impact.

“Goodlife Pharmacy has always been committed to promoting health and well-being. With the support of LeapFrog Investments, we have made remarkable progress in fulfilling our mission. The partnership with CFAO Healthcare represents a unique opportunity to expand this mission, bringing even greater impact and value to our customers and communities.”

This move sees the exit of leapfrog investments from Goodlife Dr. Biju Mohandas LeapFrog Investments Partner and Head of Global Healthcare Investments expressed confidence in CFAO Healthcare’s long-term commitment.
