When she delivered her third born child at Lodwar referral hospital on April 8, Margaret Atabo was all smiles.

However her joy was short lived when she learnt that her baby had only one limb and did not have a vaginal opening.

“I was happy for the baby but also disturbed to learn she had some physical defects,” said Atabo at her father’s home in Nakwamekwi.

Baby Vabian Lobuno was referred to Moi teaching and referral hospital, Eldoret where she underwent an operation to enable her pass urine and fecal matter normally.

The baby who has the right limb only is now four months old and the family is in distress.

Her mother is an orphan who lives with her uncle Ekamais Ekalan who is aging and does not have a stable source of income.

Atabo 23 is now appealing to well wishers to come to her rescue and help her take her baby for operation to rectify the birth defect.

“We are really calling upon well-wishers and the county government to support us and address our predicament,” said Atabo.

Her brother Paul Emase has been going round asking for support from well wishers after he was granted permission by Turkana Central deputy county commissioner Patrick Mativo.

In April Kna visited the hospital and confirmed the state of the child.

While the family is grateful that the baby survived despite the challenge they are praying for support for the baby.

The baby is in a stable condition and when KNA visited their home at Nakwamekwi she was all smiles and playful.

It remains to be seen whether persons of good will will come to the rescue of baby Lobuno and end the distress of the family.
