Kenyatta National Hospital medical workers have suspended their strike for the next two weeks to allow salary negotiations to take place.
Addressing the press on Monday, Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals & Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA) secretary general Albert Njeru said they have suspended the strike to allow a five-member committee appointed by the hospital board of management to come with concrete figure which workers will be paid.
The workers had issued a 14-day strike notice to compel the government to implement resolutions from the State Corporation Advisory Committee that were passed in 2012, which upgraded the hospital’s parastatal status from 3C to 7A.
The upgrade would lead to increase of salaries of all staff.
The changes in remuneration were to be reflected in the workers’ basic salaries and allowances, including house and leave allowances.
