Confusion persisted in public health facilities in Kakamega county yesterday after nurses and clinical officers declined an order by the county government to report back to work.
Patients continued to suffer, with a medic saying she had witnessed seven patients who were to undergo dialysis, succumb.
A faction of the local nurses’ union said last week that they had called off the two-month long strike.
The faction led by the Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) Kakamega Branch chairman Eliud Molenje said the strike, had ended after the county government implemented nearly all their demands.
But another faction led by the Knun county Secretary Renson Bulunya, insists that the strike was still on.
