Nyeri County government has issued strict public health measures to contain the surge of Covid-19 cases.
In a letter to county residents, Director Health Services Nelson Muriu said the issuance of the new containment measures was informed by the spike of the cases after 149 residents tested positive of the disease on Monday.
“In the last three weeks, the County has witnessed a rise in Covid-19 infections with positivity rates ranging between 25-50%.
“We have also noted worrying trends of reduced adherence to public health measures such as wearing of face masks and handwashing among the general public,” Muriu wrote.
He said all workers in hotels, restaurants, eateries, bars, supermarkets, churches, banks and other public premises must show proof of Covid-19 vaccination by producing the Covid-19 vaccination certificate.
“All persons seeking services in premises that attract public gatherings e.g. hotels, supermarkets, bars, etc. must provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination,” he said.
Muriu also asked the chiefs, assistant chiefs, public health officers and community health volunteers to monitor all public gatherings within their jurisdiction and ensure all Covid-19 protocols are followed.
“All Nyeri residents are encouraged to visit any of our health facilities to get vaccinated. A mobile vaccination team shall be stationed at Gakere road, Nyeri town,” he added.
