The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has warned Kenyan women against the use of Yoni Pearls, which has now gained popularity amongst women using it for ‘vaginal detoxification’.
In a press statement, PPB said that the vaginal pearls, which are also referred to as herbal tampons or cleansing pearls, are not authorized for use in Kenya.
“Their usage poses potential public health risks as the PPB cannot guarantee their quality, safety or efficacy,” the poisons board warned.
The product is mostly sold online in sets of three with prices ranging from Sh600 to Sh1,000 a set.
PPB asked members of the public and medical professionals to report any dubious health items and technology to the board via the website or the USSD code *271#.
