The Ministry of Health has rolled out a nationwide health facility census aimed at identifying gaps in the healthcare sector and enhancing service delivery.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha.S. Wafula, data compiled from the facility assessment exercise will provide evidence for policy formulation, planning, and programming within the health sector towards the realization of Universal health coverage.
“The health facility census will act as a step forward in the government mission to ensure quality healthcare access for all Kenyans is met under UHC,” Nakhumicha said.
CS Nakhumicha said that the two-week initiative will target 15,000 facilities both public, private and faith-based organizations.
The CS stated that the assessment will give a clear roadmap on gaps that need to be filled to ensure that the country’s health framework is well-equipped to deliver UHC.
She added that all primary health centers will be equipped with modern information communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and connected to the internet to enhance seamless referral systems.
“This will help in the referral system as the country focuses on preventive and promotive health with Community Health Promoters being at the center of service provision.”
