Amref Health Africa launched its strategic plan 2023-2030 that aims at transforming the health of communities through Primary Health Care mainly focusing on women and young people.
According to Dr Meshack Ndirangu, Country Director, Amref Health Africa in Kenya, the new plan provides a new perspective on people-centered health systems and social determinants of health including the effects of the climate crisis on population health, and stronger partnerships and alignment with others in the healthcare space.
Mary Muriuki, Principal Secretary, State Department of Public Health and Professional Standards, said during the launch that AMREF has aligned its strategic plan with the government’s manifesto on Universal Health Coverage.
“As I read through the 2023-2030 strategy, it is clear that your organization is fully supportive of the government’s bottom-up economic transformation” PS Muriuki said.
She added that the new strategic plan reflects on Amref’s continued passion and determination to create lasting health changes in Africa.
Dr Salim Hussein, Head of the Department of Primary Healthcare, said that Ministry of Health is moving from curative towards preventive and promotive healthcare delivery systems to fully engage communities and improve overall health outcomes.
